Here, giant beef and chicken roasts, shuti kabab (marinated minced meat), shahi doi bora (fried and spiced lentil balls dipped in yoghurt) mutton and chicken cutlet, kima roll (a roll of chopped meat), different types of kabab, kima parata, hilsha eggs, borhani, matha and different sweet items are the Chawkbazar specialities. Most of the shopkeepers are seen selling traditional iftar items some of which trace their origins back to the Mughal era. The Buriganga River is the main river flowing beside Dhaka city, capital of Bangladesh. In the distant past, a course of the Ganges river used to reach the Bay of Bengal through the Dhaleshwari river. It is said that the water levels during high and low tides in this river astonished the Mughals. The water tables even is very astonishing due to pollution of polythenes deposited beneath water. some Thing We have to Change

The city dwellers also suffer from other
diseases, which may be directly or indirectly
linked to environmental sources. Open
manholes, leaky sewerage lines and unhygienic
lifestyle may cause many microbial and vector
borne diseases. Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) holds the
official responsibility for collection,
transportation and final disposal of everyday
solid waste generated within its service area. According to a World Bank report, the solid
waste generation of Dhaka Metropolitan area

Revolt of Dhaka City

In late May and through June this year, there has been a wave of fierce class struggle in the Bangladesh garment industry. To illustrate the scale of events: around 4000 factories in Dhaka went on wildcat strike, 16 factories were burnt down by strikers and hundreds more ransacked and looted, pitched battles were fought with cops and private security forces in workplaces and workers' neighborhoods, main roads were blocked. Casualties include 3 workers shot dead , thousands injured, several thousand jailed. The Government eventually felt compelled to bring in the Army to restore 'order'. It was a working class revolt that spread beyond the workplace and generalized to involve the wider working class community. At present (early July) the struggle continues in the garment zones on a lesser scale.

Present Condition of Garment Workers

As it has been mentioned in my many write-up that our garment workers are working inhumanly from morning to evening ,doing overtime to meet their two square a meal, their wages have remained from minimum 950/- to 1650/-. There has been demand from these workers to increase their wages to a level so that they can lead a better life; so far all their demands have gone unheeded. They are talking about ration, an increase in their wages in keeping with the existing market price and what not. These are all hollow hopes. The statistics show that the wages of Bangladeshi worker is 40pounds i.e. 44%, China 66pounds i.e. 47%, India54 pounds i.e. 54%, Morocco 200ponds ie60%, Thailand 130pounds i.e. 50% and Vietnam45 pounds i.e. 56%. The so called big shot people must take up the matter seriously before it gets too late to keep Bangladesh RMG industries in track and keep on earning the foreign currency for this poor country which depends a lot on this sector. Now their wages have increased 1650 to 3000.

Noise Pollution man-made noise harmful to health or welfare. Transportation vehicles are the worst offenders, , railroad stock, trucks, buses, automobiles, and motorcycles all producing excessive noise. In Bangladesh noise pollution (also termed as sound pollution) is a major health hazard. In fact, due to noise pollution millions of people in Bangladesh are exposed to a number of health risks - from deafness to heart attack. On city streets noise pollution can be caused by hydraulic horns of vehicles, microphones and cassette players. The hydraulic horns used by buses, trucks and scooters in the crowded city streets are dangerous for human being. This is also how noise pollution in Dhaka City is affecting the hearing power of thousands of children everyday. The horns especially cause serious damage to children. Experts say, if a child below three years of age hears a horn emitting 100 dB of noise from a close range, he or she might lose his or her hearing power. A child's health may also be adversely affected by loud sounds from the radio, television, cassette players and microphones, the sound of mills and factories and loud noise.

water pollution in and around capital Dhaka, especially the waters of the rivers Buriganga, Turag, Balu and Tongi canal have been threatening the supply of safe drinking water and public health of over 10 million city dwellers.
The main sources of water pollution in the capital are domestic sewage including human excreta, bathroom and kitchen wastewater, industrial wastewater including toxic chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers used in the agricultural fields around city.
At present, colour of water of these four rivers, canals and ditches in and around the capital has become almost black with bad smells making it impossible for fish to survive as the organic wastes have been absorbing the dissolved oxygen from water. The industries are the major source of pollution of the Turag river while many others dump their wastes in the rivers Balu and Shitalakhya.

Pollutions of Dhaka City

Air pollution is one of a variety of manmade environmental disasters that are currently taking place all over the world. The major sources of air pollution are transportation engines, power and heat generation, industrial processes and the burning of solid waste . Dhaka city is more than 400 years old. Over these years the population has increased many folds.Living in Dhaka is not really like living in the crater of an active volcano but it is like living on a sleeping volcano which may erupt any time and engulf everything. Those who are living in cities in Asian countries including Dhaka, have already realized how seriously air pollution has been poisoning life and degrading the environment. Mainly Motor vehicles, especially two-strokes engine vehicles are an increasingly important source of air pollution emissions in Dhaka.

Child Giving Die Hard Effort to Survive

Can anyone specify “Where Humanity Stands?”. People like us might not be able to imagine how much pain and sufferings children like this boy has to tolerate at this age for ensuring two times meals every day. This boy who is ten or twelve years old and he has a right to go to school but he cant. It is very shame to us to see this kind of picture everyday that a children is working with a machine. But there are many soft heart human being who feels sorry for this kind of children and my appeal is only for them, that is… only feeling sorry or sad is not going to make any change in their miserable life. So please step forward and spread your hands so that they can grab it and you can pull them up from their miserable life.

Growing slums of Dhaka

Growth of Slums in Dhaka Metropolitan Area in the last ten years has been nothing less than immense and spectacular. Using 1996 as the base year, the slum population in DMA was 1.5 million in 3007 clusters out of a total DMA population of 5.5 million. In 2005 the slum population has grown to 3.4 million in out of a total DMA population of 9.13 million. While the overall population in the same geographical area of 360 km is growing at the rate of 4.5 percent to 5.0 percent, the slum population is growing at the rate of more than 10 percent year on year. No matter what, the trend is very clear that the population and the percentage of slum population in Dhaka Metropolitan Area is growing much faster than the overall population and will continue to be in the foreseeable future. It will be nearly impossible to increase density of habitation on single storey structures. In future, the slums will have to be in multistoried structures !

Lagh Fort: Lalbagh Fort or Fort Aurangabad is a incomplete palace of the Mughals at the Buriganga river. Construction was commenced in 1678 by Prince Muhammad Azam during his 15-month long vice-royalty of Bengal, but before the work could complete, he was recalled by Aurangzeb. His successor, Shaista Khan, did not complete the work, though he stayed in Dhaka up to 1688. His daughter Bibi Pari died here in 1684 and this led him to consider the fort to be ominous.
The archaeological excavations have revealed strata of the Sultanate as well as of the pre-Muslim periods, from where terracotta heads and plaques have been found. Thus it is now justified to say that though the Mughals founded Dhaka, it was definitely inhabited long before the Muslims came to Bengal.

Hoseni Dalan: Hoseni Dalan, also spelt Husaini Dalan, is a Shia shrine in the old part of the Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was built in the 17th century during the Mughal era. It is said that one Sayyid Murad built the building during the Subedari (Governorship) of Shah Shuja, son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Although Shuja was a Sunni Muslim he patronised Shia institutions too. Legend has it that Sayyid Murad built the building after a vision of al-Husain. Since then, the building has been enhanced and renovated many times. During the rule of the East India Company, it was repaired in 1807 and 1810. After an earthquake damaged it in 1897 it was further extended and reconstructed.

Baitul Mukarram Mosque: Dhaka City is called the city of Mosque. There are lots of Mosques is situated in Dhaka city. Baitul Mukarram is the national mosque of Bangladesh. Located at the heart of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, the mosque was founded during the 1960s. The mosque has a capacity of 30,000, giving it the respectable position of being the 10th biggest mosque in the world. However the mosque is constantly getting overcrowded. This especially occurs during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which has resulted in the Bangladeshi government having to add extensions to the mosque, thus increasing the capacity to at least 40,000.

The Best Architecture

Parliament House Jatiya Sangsad Bhabon is a majestic public building. It is located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. Starting from the beginning of architectural history, say from the time of the Pyramids till modern times, if a list of most significant buildings of the world is made, the Parliament House complex will feature very prominently among the top few in that list. It can be said to be the culmination of the modern period of architecture and the beginning of that of the post-modern era. This magnificent building stands as a silent evidence of the creative devotion and poetic vision of its American architect, Luis I Kahn. The construction started in 1964 with an initial estimated cost of about $15 million. The construction of the complex along with all services and facilities was completed in 1982 at a revised cost of $32 million. The complex includes the National Assembly Building, hostels for members of parliament, ministers and secretaries, hospitality halls and community buildings all linked by roads and walkways and surrounded by attractive gardens and lakes.
